The 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil kicked off on Thursday June 12, 2014 when hosts Brazil clashed with Croatia. There were a total of 64 matches as 32 national teams battled for the World Cup 2014 trophy in the greatest football spectacle in the world during the month-long event which culminates with the World Cup Final game at Maracana Stadium on Sunday July 13.

In their final World Cup Group State clash, Team USA lost 1-0 to Germany. However the United States will advance to the Round of 16 battle along with Germany since Portugal defeated Ghana 2-1. Barcelona superstar striker Neymar made sure to confirm Brazil”s promotion with two superb goals against Cameroon in the first half as his team finished on top of Group A. Brazil will clash with Chile in the Last 16.

Cameroon lost to Brazil 4-1 in their third defeat in the group stage.

Twenty-two year old Neymar is the top goal scorer in World Cup 2014 – in all competitions he has 35 goals in 52 cups.

Cameroon’s only goal came from Joel Matip. Fred and Fernandinho scored the remaining two goals for Brazil.

Chile move on to play Brazil in the Last 16 as runners-up in Group B.

Mexico defeated Croatia 3-1 to qualify for a knockout tie against Holland, earning a spot in the Last 16.

Mexico captain Rafael Marquez scored a stunning header in the 72nd minute, followed by goals from Andres Guadardo and Javier Hernandez.

Croatia’s Ivan Perisic’s scored late but it was not enough to stop their World Cup exit.
